Daddy J and I are far from your textbook romance... but I wouldn't change a thing. After starting a family we are finally ready to tie the knot. There have been many discussions over the past year on when, where and how and a lot of those are still unanswered but we are making progress.
For awhile we had decided we would go the courthouse route. We had discussed eloping at Sandals Jamaica. But after talking more about it we both admitted we would like a wedding, even if it is a little off beat and less traditional. I am opening my mind and looking at all options and not only the ones the wedding industry shoves down your throat. I am slowly realizing that I am not really a fan of most of the traditional wedding stuff. The important thing is our union, celebrating, and having a great time!
When we first started planning our wedding two years ago we were planning for a wedding at The Walt Disney World Resort. I used to work there and am a bit of a Disney nut. Because of the cost of The Disney Wedding packages we started discussing other options because I come from a very large family. After talking more about it we decided we wanted to get married in Indianapolis, my home city. We were hoping to get married at The Scottish Rite Cathedral.
Now that we are starting to plan again we've decided we would still like to get married in Indiana in the fall. We love the idea of an outdoor wedding with the changing leaves and crisp fall air. We have started looking at locations but there is one we have fallen in love with, Wea Creek Orchard. It is perfect the price is right, we would have the day before and the day after for set up and break down and there is a huge barn we could hold the reception in. A barn sounds odd, but I saw it on a wedding website and I fell in love with the idea. The only problem is that it is not available for the dates that we are looking at. We would be willing to put it off for another year if it means getting this location. I am anxiously awaiting an email to see what they can do. Another option we are looking at is at Cataract State Park. I went here often as a young girl and it is beautiful. There are two sets of waterfalls and over one is a covered bridge. The pictures would be amazing. I also found out we can rent out the bridge along with the shelter by the falls. The only problem we've encountered is that there are only pit toilets available. We are looking into the nice portable restrooms but we are also waiting to see if DNR would be okay with this. We have also thought about Brown County, as it is just amazing in the fall. Finding a location that has everything that we require will be an interesting adventure.
When we think of fall, we think of apples. We are doing a theme with apples and burlap. In place of floral centerpieces we are going to have wooden buckets lined with burlap and filled with apples that will also serve as favors. Because of the liquor laws depending on our location we will also have a sparkling cider toast in place of champagne so even the kids can be included. I love the barn at Wea Creek. I want to string lights through out and use minimal decorations as the barn is beautiful as it is. We hope to have the ceremony in the orchard. If we end up at Cataract I can't wait to enjoy the beauty of it's old red covered bridge.
We have started to discuss food, and after looking at some of the local caterers I was really surprised. This is a big one as it will be the deciding factor in how many people we can invite.I would love to do the food myself as I love to cook, but cooking for that many and living out of state could prove to be a challenge. So we are looking into possibly having a restaurant cater and have a less formal dinner. We are thinking we might do a family style dinner. We have also considered serving heavy hors d'oeuvres and skipping the traditional dinner.
I already have a dress. I thought it was THE dress, but it was THE dress for our big pre-babies cathedral wedding, complete with cathedral length train. Since the dress I have isn't practical for the wedding we are planning now I am trying to sell it. I have a dress picked out that I love, but no one will see it until the big day! I have been looking at accessories and in place of a bouquet I am planning on carrying a white lace parasol. It is something different and it works with our outdoor ceremony. I have also fallen in love with the bird cage veils. As for our wedding party, we haven't really discussed this. We originally had planned on a large wedding party, but we are thinking of just having one person each, this is still up in the air.
I'll probably post more as we plan more. If you would like to see some of our ideas you can check out my wedding board on Pinterest.
